The Oregon State University Board of Trustees on Friday approved a $1.64 billion operations budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year and advanced to the construction stage a $213 million research center in Corvallis and a $16.5 million housing development in Newport.

The 145,000-square-foot Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, designed by ZGF Architects, will be at the campus’ northwest corner, near the intersection of Southwest Memorial Place and Monroe Avenue. The facility will employ a NVIDIA supercomputer to support faculty in addressing complex and challenging computational problems and feature an extended reality theater and cyber-physical playground with next-generation robotics.

OSU has received more than $100 million in gifts in support of this project, including $50 million from Jen-Hsun Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, and his wife Lori, who both graduated from Oregon State’s College of Engineering. The project is expected to be completed in winter 2026.

A 34,000-square-foot residential building in Newport will serve the university’s Hatfield Marine Science Center. There will be 77 units, primarily studios and a small number of two-bedroom apartments, for upper-division undergraduates, graduate students, Oregon State staffers, faculty members, and other professionals. The housing complex will be located about three-quarters of a mile from the science center.
