As a woman, Filipina and architect, Stephanie Balbin has led and inspired a change in the representation within the A/E/C industry. By being present in classrooms and sharing her experiences, she has expanded the visibility of diverse voices within the profession.

鈥淏eing a mentor has always held significant meaning for me because I aimed to provide the guidance I never had when I was growing up, attending college and embarking on my journey as a young professional,鈥� she said. 鈥淭he architect I am today is largely thanks to the wonderful family, friends and mentors who supported and encouraged me along the way. Now, I believe it is my turn to give back.鈥�

Her passion for architecture and commitment to nurturing the next generation of creative minds is evident through her participation in the ACE Mentorship program and the Architecture Foundation of Oregon鈥檚 Architects in Schools initiative.

For the past seven years, Balbin has volunteered her expertise to mentor and guide students interested in pursuing careers in architecture. By sharing her knowledge and experience, she inspires these young individuals and motivates them to reach their full potential in the field of design.

Her volunteer work with Hip Hop Architecture blends her two passions of inspiring emerging professionals and increasing diversity in the profession by introducing underrepresented youth to careers in architecture, urban planning and design.

As a board member of NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects), she plays a crucial role in advancing the organization鈥檚 mission to promote diversity and inclusivity within the architectural community.

Balbin鈥檚 commitment extends even further as she actively participates in the conference planning committee, where her creative ideas and meticulous planning contribute to the success of annual events that bring professionals together to share knowledge and insights.
