Amber Kelel

director of business development for Systems West Engineers

Amber Kelel shoulders several crucial responsibilities, including crafting and executing strategic initiatives for the entire company, the Business Development division and the branch office in Bend. She also leads the development of the company鈥檚 comprehensive training program, ensuring the professional growth of its employees.

Kelel has made commendable strides in promoting diversity and inclusion, with a strong focus on hiring women in STEM fields. This emphasis has led to a tripling of women engineers and designers within the company over the past five years.

Additionally, Kelel has been at the forefront of establishing Systems West as a trailblazing non-traditional apprenticeship training center, collaborating with Lane Community College and Associated Builders and Contractors鈥� Pacific Northwest chapter to prepare future energy analysts for the industry鈥檚 demands.

Kelel has led and inspired the implementation of an internal training and mentorship program for staff, fostering team building and mentorship opportunities within the company. She continuously engages the industry in various ways to encourage team building and mentorship opportunities.

鈥淚 was lucky enough to have many outstanding mentors throughout my professional journey,鈥� she said. 鈥淚n the simplest of ways, mentoring is the human element of experiential learning. Most of the time if you pay attention and truly stay present in the mentoring moment, you both have something to learn. And that 鈥� a growth mindset, an opportunity to do better 鈥� is why mentoring is so important to me.鈥�

Ellie Marks is among several staff members Kelel has mentored and said, 鈥淎mber is a tremendous leader and I could not ask for a better mentor as a newcomer in the industry. She is a natural problem-solver, cheerleader and continuously works to elevate our local communities.鈥�

Kelel is on the Board of Directors for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and is a 2019 Leadership Eugene Springfield Graduate of the chamber鈥檚 civic program.
