Donna Olson has invested more than three decades of her life and career to Mortenson. She began in the construction industry with an entry level position at Cochran Electric. After three years there, she started at Mortenson in their Seattle office, where she proved to be a valuable teammate and natural leader.
鈥淭here are many people, too many to name, that have helped me get to this place in my life,鈥 Olson said.
Olson鈥檚 ability to make personal connections has been the center of everything she stands for. Whether it鈥檚 taking homemade cookies to each superintendent with a friendly message or helping raise money for the company鈥檚 Giving Campaign, she loves forging bonds with those around her. The trust people have in her is also notable, especially amid the company鈥檚 rollout of a new billing and financial system that will go live this autumn.
Mortenson colleague Lynette Todd shared that Olson is focused on building community with those around her.
鈥淭he Mortenson organization is better for having Donna a part of it,鈥 Todd said. 鈥淭here couldn鈥檛 be a more extraordinary mentor, coach, and friend than Donna. She is the epitome of leading by example and going above and beyond 鈥 she approaches any issue with a potential solution or words of encouragement. But most of all, she is always there to listen.鈥
Olson鈥檚 guidance to others up and coming in the construction field is straightforward: 鈥淏e bold 鈥 put yourself out there. Be curious 鈥 don鈥檛 be afraid to ask questions and learn about the industry. Be innovative 鈥 look for ways to improve processes. Be resilient 鈥 you will have tough times and there will be mistakes 鈥 learn from them and move on. Be authentic 鈥 people will see through fake.鈥
