A project superintendent at Walsh Construction Co. since 2010, Ryan Matthews brings nearly three decades of construction experience and is an inspiration to other people in the industry. She has had the privilege of working on some of the company鈥檚 large major commercial projects and for the past 13 years, has been the superintendent on the work with The Standard. This project includes Class A office space and she has successfully completed and managed more than 189 occupied renovations and tenant improvement projects that total $134 million.

Her ability to foster and encourage the next generation of builders through her work in mentorship and inclusion is particularly noteworthy. Matthews eagerly mentors other people within Walsh Construction, and fiercely advocates for other people鈥檚 success. Regularly, you鈥檒l find her sharing her experience, time, and connections to help people create a successful construction career. She also has spearheaded the company鈥檚 workshop at the Oregon Tradeswomen Career Fair, which has been crucial in introducing women to construction careers.

When she鈥檚 not working or mentoring others, Matthews is active in many local area nonprofits, such as NAWIC, Bridge Meadows and Portland YouthBuilders.

When asked what her nomination meant to her, Matthews said that she鈥檚 simply humbled and then gave this important advice to others up and coming in the industry: 鈥淏e yourself. Strive to be the best version of yourself and keep expanding that vision. Don鈥檛 be afraid to have a different perspective. Embrace your differences. Listen.鈥�
