The City of Redmond has completed a 43,800-square-foot public safety facility that replaces an outdated police station and serves as the new headquarters for the Redmond Police Department.
The two-story building at 111 N.W. Teak Ave. was completed in July 2025, coming in nearly $1 million under the $40.1 million voter-approved General Obligation Bond that funded the project. The savings were returned to the city.
The facility features a secure sally port, advanced evidence processing and storage systems, detention and security areas, training rooms, and expanded vehicle accommodations including patrol carport structures. A K9 unit with indoor and outdoor kennels and secure lockers accessible around the clock for retrieval of seized belongings reflect the building鈥檚 operational depth.
A defining structural choice was the use of cross-laminated timber vertical bearing wall panels 鈥 an approach more commonly applied horizontally. Prefabricated off-site by subcontractor Carpentry Plus, the CLT panels reach up to 10 inches thick and serve simultaneously as the primary structure and interior finish surface. Because openings for glazing and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems had to be identified before manufacturing, the team relied on Building Information Modeling to coordinate all penetrations in advance. Holes larger than three inches were factory-cut; smaller ones were field-drilled.
Additional prefabrication of electrical conduit assemblies and HVAC components reduced on-site congestion and supported schedule reliability.

Safety protocols during construction included Pence Contractors鈥 鈥淗eads Up鈥 program, introduced midway through the build, along with daily huddles and stretch-and-flex warmups to reinforce awareness and accountability across all trades. Permanent fall protection systems were built into the roof to support future maintenance access.
Sustainability features include 69.62 kilowatts of rooftop solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and carports designed to accommodate additional solar installation. Abundant natural daylighting supplements efficient building systems throughout.
The procurement process included extensive outreach to regional MWESB and local trade partners, resulting in substantial engagement.
The facility includes a training room with a support kitchen available for reservation by community organizations, as well as infrastructure for food-truck access and a community plaza. A walking trail runs through the site. The project team included FFA Architecture and Interiors, KPFF, PAE Engineers and owner鈥檚 representative Cumming Group.
