Legacy renovates former pediatric space into intensive care units
Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is planning to perform a total of $25 million in renovations in three buildings at the hospital's North Portland campus.

Before Intel started building like crazy in Hillsboro, the new Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel was the largest private construction project happening in the Portland area. ZGF designed and Hoffman is constructing the building, which is now visible from the Fremont Bridge 鈥� it's the one big building in the middle of its neighborhood.
Legacy鈥檚 children鈥檚 hospital will stick out on the east side
A $250 million, nine-story building will be the new home for The Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel when it opens next year. The design team tried to make rooms feel homey instead of clinical so that the building won't feel like a hospital.

The Children鈥檚 Hospital at Legacy Emanuel won鈥檛 resemble a hospital on the inside: ceilings, walls and floors will be paneled with wood; every patient room will be private and have a pull-out couch for visitors; and family lounges, gardens and even an art studio are designed to avoid a clinical feel.
Holiday decorations at children’s hospital site
Snowmen, candy canes, Christmas trees and a reindeer have been created from construction materials to be displayed for kids spending the holiday season at the Children鈥檚 Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. Workers received a card from the mother of one of the patients that started out 鈥淒ear Construction Angels鈥� and went on to describe the joy that the sculptures had brought to her child.
Children鈥檚 hospital at Emanuel topped out
Ironworkers from Local 29 set the beam after a ceremony attended by dozens of supporters of the nine-story, 330,000-square-foot Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in North Portland. The hospital is expected to be completed in 2012 and hold 165 private rooms, a 22-bed day surgery unit, a pediatric intensive care unit and a neonatal intensive care unit.
