Nothing says "Christmas" like projections as to how retail is going to do. This year, things actually look fairly non-terrible, as consumers are expected to spend about 3 percent more than last year. Holes filling up in Portland’s West End

A new tenant for the midcentury-modern 419 Building on Southwest 10th Avenue is a positive sign for Portland's West End, which has long-vacant storefronts and office space. Building owner Richard Singer is planning a rehab of the whole structure, inside and out. Developers and designers say they are optimistic because the area is attractive to creative tenants.

Picnic table-strewn ‘Ankeny Alley’ to remain closed to cars

Earlier this June, the stretch of Southwest Ankeny Street between Second and Third avenues was cut off to cars and filled with picnic tables. Initially, the experiment was only to last until the end of October, but the autumnal deadline came and went, and the tables remain. The businesses will continue to pay for the space throughout the winter, and they like it that way.

Nike Portland grand opening today in downtown

The renovation of the new Nike Portland is complete, and the store's grand opening is today. The new 26,000-square-foot store is in the historic Kress Building at 638 S.W. Fifth Ave. near Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Historic Auditorium Building for sale in downtown Portland

The Auditorium Building, at 920 S.W. Third Ave., is owned by Anthony McNamer, who is both parts of the rap act he calls Exquisite Rap Duo. The 17,600-square-foot building is for sale at an asking price of $3.1 million.

PDC strikes parking garage deal with downtown Target store

The Portland Development Commission board agreed to delay redevelopment on the parking structure at Southwest 10th Avenue and Yamhill Street to assure developers of the nearby Galleria Building that there will be parking available for an incoming Target store.

Target finalizing lease for downtown Portland store

Target is finalizing its lease agreement to open a store in downtown Portland, according to sources close to the deal. The Historic Landmarks Commission on Oct. 10 unanimously approved alterations to the Galleria Building, which occupies the entire city block bounded by Southwest Morrison and Alder streets and Southwest Ninth and 10th avenues.
