Block Kids shapes future face of construction industry
The Oregon City school recently served as the site of Block Kids for 2011. The annual event, sponsored by The National Association of Women in Construction Chapter No. 54, is designed to encourage young people to consider pursuing careers in construction.
PSU dorm project under way
Workers have started pouring foundations and support for the $87.8 million College Station dorm being constructed for Portland State University.
Myhre Group designs student housing project
A mixed-use, student housing project is expected to aid revitalization in downtown Hillsboro. The building, Above Second, was designed by Myhre Group Architects and developed through a public-private partnership with the city of Hillsboro. Construction will take place along the MAX light-rail line at the corner of southwest Second Avenue and Washington Street.
Architects design the industry’s future
As baby boomer architects retire, firms will have to rush to replace them with experienced employees. And with hiring still tight, they're worried the plethora of inexperienced architecture graduates pouring from universities will become disenchanted and leave the profession.
