I guess you know you’ve made it as an architect when Lego offers kits of your designs.
Wired’s reports that Lego plans on releasing six kits featuring buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The first two — Fallingwater and the Guggenheim — are already on the market.
Just as the string of four-letter words that comes shooting out of the mouth of anyone who steps on a Lego piece with bare feet isn’t kid appropriate, neither are the Frank Lloyd Wright kits. For starters, the recommended age group is 16 and older.
Then there’s the price. requires some definite cha-ching, to the tune of almost a hundred bucks. For those of you on a budget — or on unemployment — the goes for a mere $39.99.
But even with the inflated prices, I think Lego has hit on a winner (which has got to be a relief considering that the company not too long ago was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy). The company could even up the cool factor by offering custom kits, something along the lines of localized versions for different major metro markets across the country.
Think of the possiblities for architecture firms and developers looking for a unique way to market their projects. Which leads to the question: which building in Portland would get your vote as worthy of being reproduced in full Lego glory?
