A crew from Staton Cos. knocks down buildings that housed a former glass business in Portland’s Pearl District to make way for an affordable housing development.

When it’s completed in 2011, Pearl Family Housing, bounded by Northwest Quimby and Raleigh streets and Northwest 13th and 14th avenues, will feature two- and three-bedroom residences on the upper floors, and space for kindergarten, first- and second-grade public-school classes on the ground floor.

Construction is the general contractor, and Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects is the designer of the mixed-use project.
