I had hoped that new signage painted on the ground floor windows of the vacant ‘checkerboard’ building at 415 S.W. 10th Avenue meant that developer Richard Singer was moving forward on a renovation of the retro-1960s building, which he purchased last year.
But Gina Johnson, co-owner of Radish Underground, a clothing boutique across the street from the building, says that she is the culprit behind the newly painted windows.
“I asked the owner if we could use the windows as a space to promote the shops in the West End,” Johnson said. “The windows looked so run down. I think the signs will make it more appealing to people looking to lease the building.”
The signs read ‘Shop West End’ and have a map of the cluster of clothing boutiques that inhabit the area, including Covet, Narcisse and Frances Mae. Johnson says she hopes the map will bring shoppers from the Pearl and Powell’s into the new retail area.
