Last fall, the Stop and Go convenience store opened across U.S. 101 from Seaside High School, and students began crossing the highway for lunch and causing a safety issue. ODOT’s District 1 made a recommendation to the city and the school district that a crosswalk be installed at 17th Street to mitigate the safety issue. Also, organizers of the Hood to Coast relay race may be interested in paying for construction of a permanent bridge over the highway at the school.

The purpose of this project is to establish a contract for the construction of a sidewalk and crosswalk on U.S. 101 at 17th Street in Seaside. The project will include a median pedestrian island, and sidewalk ramps will be built at the ends of the crosswalk. The intersection will need to be re-striped, so U.S. 101 will receive an asphalt overlay to cover old stripes.

Completion of the project is scheduled for May 28, 2010.
