This Sunday’s episode of The Simpsons showed the famous yellow family tilting at windmills. Literally.
After Homer becomes fed up with high power bills, he and the family head to an alternative energy expo where they find a Dane selling wind turbines. After installing the turbine in their backyard, the family is at first excited to be “off the grid.” But that excitement fades when The Simpsons realize the juice only flows when the wind blows.
Not to be deterred, or go crawling back to the power company, Homer boldly proclaims, “The Simpsons are living intermittently!”
The Simpsons and its Oregon-born creator Matt Groening have long parodied American life, and the fact that wind energy is a big enough topic to make it to Sunday night television could be a good sign for the industry. At the very least, it will give energy industry professionals a laugh.
