What to do with Portland’s big hole in the ground

Our newest reporter Nick Bjork reports that the Portland Development Commission is sticking with its current digs in Old Town rather than moving to Tom Moyer’s posh .

Now, Portland is faced with the continued presence of a giant hole in the middle of its downtown. What if there was a temporary use for the Park Avenue West pit while another anchor tenant is found to kickstart the project?

Our overly-caffeinated newsroom staff has a few ideas:

  • Swimming hole: Hey, it’s going to be really hot in a couple of months. What better way to spend your lunch break than a dip in the Park Avenue West swimming hole?
  • : Get in touch with your inner child at the world’s largest ball pit. All of the multi-colored plastic fun of your youth is a MAX ride away.
  • Rejected ideas from Memorial Coliseum: Remember that proposal? I’m just saying…
  • A giant : Very Portland. Also, very smelly.
  • A wishing pond: Perhaps with enough nickels and dimes, Park Avenue West’s dreams can come true.

What are your ideas?
