This project consists of a request for proposals from individuals, firms, teams or consultants with demonstrated experience in the design of urban parks, renovation of historically significant parks, design of successful public spaces, public participation and sustainable building techniques for Dawson Park, an existing two-acre neighborhood park bounded by North Stanton and Morris streets, and by North Williams and Vancouver avenues in Portland.

The overall purpose of the project is to improve the park by integrating site furnishings and interpretive information to emphasize historic character, and enhancing safety and park features.

The project includes site work to make the gazebo ADA accessible. Other site improvements will be made to enhance the performance aspect of the historic dome.

Other design improvements will focus on the existing play area, fencing, drinking fountain, play area site furnishings, a new children’s splash pad, interpretive panels, site furnishings, additional game tables, historic-style lighting, sidewalk and planter strip improvements, and other work.

An announcement of short-list proposers is scheduled for Jan. 12, and the selection committee’s recommendation will be issued Jan. 28. Notice to proceed will be given April 1, 2011.
