An extensive renovation of the Uptown Tower is now under way at the corner of St. Clair Avenue and West Burnside Street. The eight-story, 72-unit affordable housing building will receive a new eco-roof, siding, windows, paint, entry canopies, exterior finishes and sidewalk upgrades. Work on the interior will include lobby improvements, office upgrades and HVAC system upgrades. Residents on each floor will be moved out for one week while units gain new kitchens, floor covering, appliances, lighting and electrical upgrades. Also, a former convenience store on the ground level will be transformed into a tenant activity and storage facility. LMC Construction is the general contractor and Carleton Hart Architecture is the designer of the project for owner Guardian Management.
