The city of Springfield is requesting proposals from qualified contractors to provide exterior painting services for Springfield City Hall and a historic depot.

The contractor shall supply all necessary preparation, installation, supplies, equipment, materials and cleanup necessary for the project. Work includes surface preparation, cleaning, removal of defective coatings, surface repair and painting. Operations will include, but not be limited to: erection and removal of necessary scaffolding or lifts, protection of public from operations, protection of materials that remain, and cover of surrounding area with plastic or drop cloths to collect debris caused by the preparation and painting process.

The Springfield depot was built in the 1890s by Southern Pacific. The building is a Southern Pacific standard No. 22 Victorian/stick-style structure. The depot’s original first-floor design contained a lobby, ticket office, passenger waiting room and freight office. The second story served as living quarters for the stationmaster and his family.

The city purchased the aging depot building in 1988 and moved it to its current location in September 1989. After an extensive restoration, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce moved its offices into the historic building.

The city’s intention is to award the project to one contractor, but the bid is to be divided into two sections: section 1 for Springfield City Hall and section 2 for the depot. The contract is scheduled to be awarded on or around July 14.
