Solar devices soon to be made on the cheap, thanks to printer ink

Personally, I always thought ink cartridges were expensive, but apparently that goes into printer ink can help make some devices cheaper.

A professor and a doctorate student at Oregon State University have submitted a patent for a process and chemical  solution that would produce the thin film for solar devices. It’s a little complicated to discuss, but basically the patent involves using a safer-than-usual chemical solution and applying it with ink-jet technology. The ink-jet way is actually more precise than other processes, so less solution is wasted.

Of course, the details are far more complicated than that, but you should read them because even though the scientists aren’t marketers, they say the new technology could be distributed to the masses sooner than you might think. Read more at djcOregon.com (subscription required).
