As lawmakers on Capitol Hill gear up to vote for a debt ceiling deal that will please no one this afternoon, folks at the Portland Development Commission have to find a new way to reach their spending ceiling for the . I can’t imagine the PDC is pleased, either, but at least it still has cash to distribute elsewhere.

Asian grocer Uwajimaya聽announced last week that it will not longer pursue developing a store in Portland’s Chinatown. PDC聽 was backing the project, and city officials hoped it would rejuvenate the area. The CEO of Uwajimaya wrote a letter to the mayor and PDC officials informing them of his decision.

The PDC now has to redistribute the 8.2 million earmarked dollars for other projects within the Downtown Waterfront URA. Maybe they can extend the boundary so it can reach the District of Columbia?
