It may sound like a contest on a reality show, but 12 students at Multnomah University are about to get the opportunity to learn what it’s like to design a challenging interior space on a budget.

The is teaming up with 12 students from the private, Christian institution for a competition called 鈥淒esign a Dorm Room on a Budget.鈥� The contest is simple: three groups of four students are given $250 that can be spent at Salvation Army locations around the region on items to design and decorate a 10-foot by 12-foot dorm room.

Each of the three dorm rooms will then be on display at the Salvation Army Family Store located in Happy Valley at 10174 S.E. 82^nd Ave., and shoppers will be allowed to vote on each design. Voting can take place anytime from Aug 25 to Aug 31.

While the students aren’t anywhere near the skill of accredited interior designers, or even working to become accredited, it will be interesting to see what they can come up with on a short budget using only products from thrift stores.
