The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland was the big winner at the National Association of Home Builders’ annual Association Excellence Awards banquet held last week in Florida.

The local chapter collected five awards at the annual event, hosted by the national association’s Executive Officers Council, the most of any regional chapter. And in addition to taking home the most awards this year, the local chapter has taken home 27 Association Excellence Awards over the six years they’ve been handed out, making the Portland-area chapter the most decorated chapter in the country.

The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland took home the following:

• Best Website
• Best Parade or Tour of Homes
• Best Education Program
• Best Political Action Program Administered
• Best Regional Government Affairs Effort

The awards focused on efforts by the local chapter throughout 2010, like its lead-based paint training program and its work to get five pro-housing and business candidates elected in its six key priority races.

Dave Nielsen, executive officer of the local chapter, said it was particularly gratifying to receive two out of three of the awards given in the political action and government affairs category. Other than being very competitive, he said, advocacy is a central focus for many home builders associations.
