If you happen to get a flat tire next time you’re driving past the Sellwood neighborhood, you might benefit from a construction project currently under way in the area.
is building a 9,394-square-foot Les Schwab Tire Center on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard near the overpass of Southeast Tacoma Street. I stumbled across the project on my way to the bus stop the other morning 鈥 trenches had been dug and foundation rebar with safety caps put in place.

According to a statement from the company, the design is based on 鈥渉igh performance鈥 building principals and will include green designs such as efficient energy, ventilation and lighting systems. The company plans to hire 10 to 12 employees for the store, which is slated to open in mid August.
The store will also include a customer lounge with popcorn and free Wi-Fi, but if customers get bored there they could always saunter over to the Acropolis Steakhouse and strip club a block away. They have great $6 steaks 鈥 or so I am told.
