The Historic Preservation League released today a list of what it calls the “” in Oregon. The nine “places” are historically significant but in danger of being destroyed or falling into disrepair, according to the league.

Here’s the list:

• Jantzen Beach Carousel – Portland
• Ice House – Eagle Point
• Uppertown Net Shed – Astoria
• Skidmore/Old Town Historic District – Portland
• Rivoli Theater – Pendleton
• Rosemont Farm Smokehouse – Yamhill
• St. Francis Hotel – Albany
• View Point Inn – Corbett
• Willamette Falls Locks – West Linn

Of the places in Portland, the Jantzen Beach Carousel is in danger because of planned development to the Jantzen Beach Center, where it’s located. Current plans by South Carolina-based developer EDENS don’t include a spot for the carousel, even though the developer has said it wants to keep the carousel.

The other endangered Portland place is the only actual neighborhood on the list – if you can call it a neighborhood. The Skidmore/Old Town District was chosen because it’s “threatened by a lack of investment, a tangled regulatory and review process, and assertions that infill development cannot pencil financially without blowing through current height limits,” according to the league.

The league also blames the area’s excess of parking lots, perceived drug use, safety issues, building neglect, vacant upper floors and pricey cost of seismic retrofitting for the potential loss of the district.
