Bradford Miller cares about kids, and it shows in his pro bono and volunteer work.

He volunteers for Child Centered Solutions, a nonprofit that advocates for kids caught in the middle of contentious divorce cases, and he鈥檚 also a volunteer pro bono attorney for Multnomah County. For three years he was on the county鈥檚 pro bono committee for the Bar Young Lawyers Section, which pairs attorneys with clients who have low or no incomes, and he recently handled two pro bono dissolution cases where parties had suffered domestic violence.

He balanced his love for volunteer work with a passion for his firm鈥檚 cases. His greatest success has come in high-profile divorce courtroom cases, where he鈥檚 been able to hold his own against attorneys with decades more experience.

鈥淏rad has excelled when handling complicated, high-asset dissolution cases in the face of staunch opposition,鈥� his colleagues at Stahancyk, Kent & Hook wrote in his Up & Coming Lawyers nomination.

Miller鈥檚 colleagues at the Portland firm consider him a 鈥渕entor and leader.鈥� He was the driving force behind the company鈥檚 Lessons Learned blog, where legal eagles can learn from each other鈥檚 experiences. He also runs the firm鈥檚 annual toy drive.

He began as a law clerk for Stahancyk, Kent & Hook in 2005 and graduated from University of Oregon School of Law in 2007, where he was senior editor for the Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation and worked as a tutor in contract law. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College, where he was captain of the tennis team and majored in both religion and English.

What was your most useful law school course and why?

My Judicial Externship with the Hon. Judge Hubel in the federal courts. Especially now litigating, there is something to learn every day from the judge and more importantly, the court staff.

What鈥檚 the best part of being an attorney?

Helping people come up with outside-the-box solutions to problems they have been repeatedly struggling to solve.

What is the first concert you went to?

Not counting the concert album 鈥淪top Making Sense鈥� that I had committed to memory almost before I could walk?
