Portland’s sordid history with vinyl windows
In today's paper, you can read my story about two new apartment projects on Northwest 23rd Avenue that will be using vinyl windows. Vinyl windows have a hard time getting approval from Portland's design commission because they are generally cheaper, lower-quality products (compared to alternatives like fiberglass and aluminum) that people think aren't attractive and don't hold up very well.

Apartment complex the ‘Norm’ going up in Northwest Portland
An apartment building called "Norm" is under construction on Northwest 19th Avenue between Northwest Quimby and Pettygrove streets. According to a sign that was up on the lot earlier this summer, the building will hold 14 apartments, though the developer WDC Properties, has not confirmed this yet.

An 18,000-square-foot warehouse building in Northwest Portland is being fully renovated by Siteworks for Web design firm ISITE Design.

After ending years of negotiations with Lab Holdings in late June, the Portland Development Commission has identified three other firms interested in potentially redeveloping the Centennial Mills site in Northwest Portland.
New Northwest Portland neighborhood more feasible after master plan is pared down
When the 16-acre Con-way site in Northwest Portland is finally developed, there may not be any canals and gondolas, as envisioned previously. But the property owner and city employees are nevertheless excited about the potential for what could be Portland鈥檚 next new neighborhood.
Besaw’s burger – get it before it’s too late?
[l] I had never been to Besaw鈥檚 鈥 a popular Portland cafe with a longstanding history and a very loyal following 鈥 until last Friday night. I had been wanting to go there, and since it had been on my 鈥淏urger Quest List鈥 (more about that in a minute), I figured I鈥檇 better get there before too much time elapses and it's gone 鈥 or drastically changed.
