Voters unwilling to pay more taxes for school construction projects

A number of bond measures aimed at funding facilities upgrades at school districts around the state were put to the voters on Tuesday. In the Portland-metro area, bonds that would have significantly raised property taxes did not have widespread appeal, while bonds that continued the same rates as some already in place experienced more success.

Portland school construction bond makes ballot

The Portland Public Schools Board on Monday night voted unanimously to put the bond measure on the May 2011 ballot. The funds, which will come from property taxes, will pay for structural, safety, security and accessibility improvements at 75 schools throughout the district between 2011 and 2017.
