Scappoose High School getting remodel
A remodel and addition are under way at Scappoose High School. The remodel, which is nearly finished, consists of numerous classroom upgrades as well as the installation of a new fire sprinkler system and a fiber-optic cable system.
St. Clare Parish school, gym upgraded
The school and the gymnasium at St. Clare Parish in Southwest Portland are being upgraded. The exterior of the school at 8535 S.W. 19th Ave. is getting new windows, HardiePanel siding and stucco.
Lake Oswego High School renovated
Repair work is in progress at Lake Oswego High School. More than 150 windows at the school are being removed and reinstalled, and some masonry work is being performed around the openings.
Oregon students present design proposals
High school students in the ACE Mentor Program presented their design proposals for a library, a fire station and a public park. Students received help with their projects from mentors in engineering and architecture fields.
Robotics camp
Students from 10 Portland-area high schools participated in a robotics camp at the Portland Community College Sylvania campus, where they got to use the school's machines and work room to build robots for a future robotics competition.
McKay Elementary School
McKay Elementary School is one of four Beaverton School District schools getting seismic upgrades through the Oregon Emergency Management Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program.
Student receive scholarships for building degrees
The ACE Mentor Program awarded $24,000 in college scholarships at Tuesday night's student project presentations. Each student received a $4,000 scholarship to be used over four years toward a higher education degree related to the building industry.

FIRST robotics competition
Twenty Philomath students and nine adult mentors from the science and engineering industries make up one of the 70 Oregon high school teams participating in the annual FIRST robotics competition at Memorial Coliseum.
Engineering clubs funded at public schools
The Oregon University System and the Engineering and Technology Industry Council last week announced that $203,774 in grants will be given to Oregon middle and high schools to start extracurricular engineering programs and to train teachers pre-engineering curriculum developed by ETIC.
School work keeps economy moving
As if crumbling and overcrowded schools weren鈥檛 motivation enough, school district and college officials in Oregon have additional pressure to get bond measures passed: the health of the design and construction industries depends on their success. Worth $109 billion, educational construction is the building industry鈥檚 largest sector, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.
