Attorney and author Courtney Dippel says storytelling, more than anything else, is a necessary skill for being a successful lawyer.

鈥淭he best trial lawyers are storytellers,鈥 said Dippel. 鈥淲hen working on a case, I always think about how I can tell the story to a jury in a compelling way.鈥

An associate attorney at Folawn, Alterman & Richardson, Dippel is experienced in a wide variety of litigation matters in both state and federal courts and private arbitrations, including cases involving business torts, commercial contracts and the Uniform Commercial Code.

The former chairwoman for the Procedure and Practice Committee of the Oregon State Bar, Dippel was responsible for coordinating the committee鈥檚 comments on proposed legislation, testifying in front of the Oregon State Legislature in support of bills, and proposing changes in the law that governs the way in which lawyers practice. She is also a member of the Owen M. Panner American Inn of Court, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Multnomah Bar Association and Oregon Women Lawyers Association.

One of her many pro bono accomplishments includes leading a successful petition of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon to return a kidnapped Mexican child to her mother in Mexico.聽 Dippel worked with the U.S. Marshal鈥檚 service to remove the child from the father鈥檚 custody and bring the child and father to court for the final hearing, where Judge Owen Panner ordered the child returned to the mother in Mexico. It remains one of Dippel鈥檚 proudest accomplishments.
