As an undergrad at the University of Southern California, Damien Hall was an intern for a real estate development firm and saw the roles attorneys play in that process. Today, as a member of Jordan Ramis PC鈥檚 Dirt Law practice group, Hall bring his experience and education in urban planning to provide land-use solutions to help his clients meet their real estate development goals.

Hall started at Jordan Ramis as a law clerk while attending Lewis and Clark鈥檚 Northwestern School of Law, transitioning seamlessly to attorney after passing the Oregon State Bar. His practice focuses on municipal matters in which he provides legal assistance and counsel to the firm鈥檚 city, county, port and other special district clients. He also defends government entitlements on appeal before the Land Use Board of Appeals and has an unblemished record there.

Recently appointed by Mayor Sam Adams to the city of Portland鈥檚 Charter Review Commission, Hall reviews and proposes potential changes to the charter to be forwarded to voters for approval. He is also a member of the North/Northeast Quadrant Planning Stakeholder Advisory Committee, where he makes recommendations on policy proposal for inclusion in the Portland 2035 plan and transportation project proposals for improvement of the Interstate 5 Broadway/Weidler planning area.

鈥淭he training I have is in government relations,鈥� Hall said. 鈥淲henever lawyers want to get approvals, there is a lot of consensus building and trying to get a critical amount of votes from a governing body. A lot of that translates to the committee setting.鈥�

In addition to his pro bono work for the city and Portland Development Commission, Hall also has established a legal access program with MicroEnterprise Services of Oregon through which he offers developing, minority-owned small businesses free initial consultations.

What is your favorite word?

Possibly melodious, perspicuous, or race car.

What is your most treasured possession?

Memories, with sense of humor in a close second.

If you hadn鈥檛 become an attorney, what career would you have pursued?

Middle reliever for the San Francisco Giants. Or real estate development.

What is something that most people don鈥檛 know about you?

I enjoyed a summer of work as a stone mason in the Carmel hills.

If you could have a drink with any person, dead or alive, who would it be?

Richard Pryor.

The ocean or the mountains?

The ocean, every time.

What do you spend your non-lawyer time doing?

Reading, basketball, chilling with friends, relaxing at home, and enjoying the Portland nightlife. Not in that particular order.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

The ability to speak any language and get free airline tickets.

Artsy by The Grouch, or most anything by Blu & Exile.

Best = learning through interaction with savvy individuals. Worst = drudgery.
