A strong-willed and inquisitive child, it didn鈥檛 take long 鈥� only until middle school 鈥� for Katie Jo Johnson to decide she would go to law school and become a lawyer.

As only a fifth-year attorney, Johnson already has accomplished a great deal in the legal profession. After graduating from Lewis & Clark, she obtained a prestigious judicial clerkship with the Hon. Jerome LaBarre of the Multnomah County Circuit Court.

鈥淏esides great skills, temperament and experience, she has the instinct and communication abilities which we see in great attorneys,鈥� LaBarre said. 鈥淪he is a quick study, a hard worker and does well under pressure.鈥�

After clerking, Johnson joined McEwen Gisvold in 2008 as a litigation associate. In less than three years, she second-chaired two major jury trials 鈥� one that lasted six weeks 鈥� and second-chaired one bench trial. As further testimony to her solid preparation and work, dozens of other cases she has prepped have resulted in settlement or dismissal.

An elected member of the Oregon State Bar House of Delegates, Johnson is an appointed member of the Our Lady of the Lake Administrative Council, and a member of the Professional Liability Fund Jury Instruction Committee. She also volunteers as a coach for the Jefferson High School Mock Trial Team.

鈥淢ock trial programs allow kids to build communication skills and confidence at a time when those are most needed,鈥� Johnson said. 鈥淭hey provide a unique opportunity to preview a professional occupation while in high school.鈥�
