POWER LIST: ARCHITECTURE

While using an approach of people first and design second, GBD has accumulated a portfolio packed with some of the region鈥檚 most influential projects. The firm is perhaps best known for the Broadway Tower, the Brewery Blocks and Portland鈥檚 South Waterfront master plan.
鈥淲hat we try to do is design buildings that are human-focused and (account for) who will inhabit the building whether living, working or going to school 鈥 a place to really experience humanity,鈥 Design Director Agustin Enriquez said.
As a truly mixed-use environment, Block 216 stands to hold a whole lot of humanity. Plans call for ground-floor retail space, 160,000 square feet of offices, a 249-key five-star hotel and 138 private residencies. In total, the 35-story building will have 844,177 square feet. It will likely become the largest development in the city since the U.S. Bancorp Tower almost 40 years ago.
Currently, the firm is working on an 8-acre redevelopment at the south end of downtown. Once fully developed, Riverplace will have 250,000 square feet of office space, 2,500 apartments, 300 hotel rooms, 100,000 square feet of retail space and 70,000 square feet of open space.
鈥淲e dream and think to create beautiful things that can actually be executed,鈥 Enriquez said
