Pence Construction is at work on a net-zero affordable housing project, a seismically resilient state government building and a midrise multifamily project along a waterfront.

Is that all? No, actually.

An effective preconstruction program and close attention paid to clients鈥� needs has kept the Lake Oswego-based contractor growing.

鈥淭he reason people pick us is we really look at their project and we really try to focus on them and not us,鈥� said Shannon Parker, Pence鈥檚 marketing director.

Pence was the contractor of choice for Edlen & Co. and Ankrom Moisan Architects to build Albertina Kerr鈥檚 workforce and inclusive housing complex in Gresham. The 150-unit, net-zero project is expected to be completed in 2022.

Pence is also building a seismically resilient headquarters for the Oregon State Treasury in Salem, using base isolators to safeguard the building in the event of an earthquake.

鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be able to handle most anything the Earth can throw at it,鈥� Parker said.

Pence is nearing completion on The Columbia at the Waterfront Vancouver, a 248-unit apartment building in the redeveloped Columbia River frontage, as well as a Campus Operations Center for Oregon State University in Corvallis.

Schools also form a significant part of Pence鈥檚 portfolio, with recent projects including Hillsboro High School and Gardiner Middle School in Oregon City. The middle school employs a project-based curriculum, and Pence is building a project to match with movable walls and flexible conference areas.

In 2022, Pence will tackle a senior living expansion for Friendsview in Newberg and a new project for Rembold, which previously hired Pence to build the 172-unit Verso Apartments in Beaverton.
