As a big player in the industrial market, Perlo Construction typically can measure its project sites by acres rather than square feet. Along Tualatin-Sherwood Road, the general contractor is putting together a 32-acre (535,000-square-foot) corporate park development. The site will have three speculative, tilt-up, industrial buildings, and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating will be sought for each one. Before structures could even begin to take shape, however, more than one million cubic yards of excavation work needed to be performed.

With supply-chain lead times increasing by the week, avoiding material delays has been a challenge 鈥� especially for these big industrial projects, said Todd Duwe, Perlo鈥檚 vice president of business development.

Over in Happy Valley, the general contractor is building a 98,000-square-foot self-storage facility and converting an existing warehouse. Both facilities will provide over 800 storage units.

Recently, with the abundance of school bond work, Perlo Construction saw a chance to expand into new markets. This last year, the firm completed a new 61,000-square-foot building for Marrion Elementary School in Vancouver, Washington. The project involved a unique feature not typically seen in schools: movable partition walls. Instead of a fixed layout, the school鈥檚 walls between classrooms allow a change to an open concept. The general contractor self-performed all the wood-frame construction on the project 鈥渂ecause we have that builder mentality,鈥� Duwe said.
