Mortenson has long staked a reputation for building challenging and unique projects.

Locally, the firm鈥檚 Portland office recently completed a rebuild of acoustic systems at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Mortenson is also at work in downtown Portland on the Multnomah County Behavioral Health Resource Center; it鈥檚 a major renovation of a 116-year-old building to provide a homeless shelter and related services.

Mortenson will tackle another project with unusual sensitivities in summer 2022. The University of Oregon is renovating Huestis Hall, which houses biology programs. Mortenson will have to take care to avoid disturbing zebrafish that are used for studies; the fish are known to be sensitive to construction vibrations.

鈥淲hen projects are uniquely challenging, whether it鈥檚 high design or fast track, that鈥檚 where we鈥檝e got a resum茅 of very successful projects across the country,鈥� said Dan Mehls, vice president and general manager in Portland. 鈥淲e gravitate toward those types of projects.鈥�

A recent projects completed by Mortenson is the Hyatt Regency at the Oregon Convention Center. The 600-room hotel was finished shortly before COVID-related shutdowns occurred last spring.

At Hillsboro鈥檚 massive Reed鈥檚 Crossing development, Mortenson is building a 118,000-square-foot wellness center for Providence. Wind farms are another area of work for Mortenson, with two projects under way in the Columbia Gorge.

Mortenson is also a developer, and its national scale and resources enable the company to finance projects, buy land and structure deals.
