PROJECT SIGNIFICANCE: A new community gathering spot, Universal Plaza, is set to open in downtown Tigard in 2023. Phase 1 will feature the community鈥檚 most requested amenity 鈥 an interactive water feature and splash pad.

Universal Plaza was designed via engagement with community members both on-site and virtually. In addition to the water feature, Phase I will include porch swings, two event lawns and landscaping, a four-stall restroom, a shelter for vending and storage, substantial lighting, and a connection for bicyclists and pedestrians with a boardwalk overlooking Fanno Creek. The plaza will be completely ADA friendly.

The second phase of work will provide an overhead canopy, a community room, and built-in seating alongside the water feature and throughout the lawn. No construction start date has been set for Phase 2.

The plaza is being paid for via City Center tax increment financing and Parks system development charges.
