PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Providence St. Vincent Medical Center鈥檚 Emergency Department, located on the lower level of the Phil & Penny Knight Pavilion (the former West Pavilion), recently received a comprehensive, multiphase renovation.聽The scope of work included remodeling and hardening the entry/security/arrival zones; creating fast track and results pending spaces; updating and creating nurse stations and employee work areas; increasing numbers of exam rooms and treatment spaces for the current pods; and creating a diagnostic imaging department with three general radiology machines, two CT scanners and an ultrasound room.

The project also included the relocation of a secure Behavioral Health Department and adjacent flex room spaces that allow for use as either medical or behavioral health treatment. An expanded staff break area now offers views of the interior courtyard. New locker rooms were constructed, and the pediatrics area was updated. The work included all related interior finishes, mechanical and electrical and plumbing, low voltage, security and fire protection/fire alarm systems work as required, and infrastructure improvements to support the department.聽At the peak of work, 87 construction team members were engaged in the project.

The team faced numerous challenges during construction; the most significant was coordination of all sub-consultants over several phases while securing 24/7 access for staff and patients. The Emergency Department, which saw 90,000 visits in 2024, was kept fully open and operational during the two-plus years of construction.
