SIGNIFICANCE OF PROJECT: The Neenan Company, in partnership with the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC), is building The Rosewood Clinic in Portland. This modern, 35,000-square-foot community health center will be three times larger than the previous Rosewood Family Health Center facility. The clinic will provide family medicine, dental and pharmacy services. A demo kitchen will support the clinic’s WIC (women, infants and children) health and nutrition program, which is intended to help caregivers prepare healthy meals for families.

The project will revitalize a derelict site. The clinic is designed to fit within the area in regard to style and culture as well as be secure with rising urban concerns in mind. The space will reflect connections between Portland’s urban fabric and YVFWC. The YVFWC motto, 鈥淲e Are Family,鈥� will be represented at the front entry in artwork displaying the word 鈥渇amily鈥� in more than 50 languages.

Durable exterior materials and minimalist massing will be used to evoke a modern, welcoming design. Exterior materials will flow into the interior spaces, which will feature wood and metal for an ambience reflective of local character. The main entry hall will display a custom mural by a local artist and a sculpture of floating acrylic umbrellas.

The Neenan Company is a fully integrated design-build firm based in Colorado. YVFWC is one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest community health centers.
