Picketers in downtown Portland this morning are members of the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters. The group is at the Multnomah County Central Library to protest general contractor R&H Construction, according to union representative Joshua Montero. R&H is the contractor on a renovation project currently happening at the library.

A drilling shaft is lowered into a cofferdam that will form the foundation of the Portland-Milwaukie light rail bridge's west tower. The shaft, which is around 10 feet in diameter, will be used to drill to a depth of more than 150 feet, after which drilling spoils will be removed and foundation forms will be lowered into the casing.

Workers installing 12 huge frames for new light-rail bridge

Workers are installing six 168-foot-long, 60-ton frames in the Willamette riverbed for a new bridge. The frames will be filled with concrete and will build the foundation for the west tower of the bridge that will carry Portland's new light-rail line to Milwaukie. The line will be the MAX Orange Line.
