Supply of shadow inventory drops in July

According to data released today by the Santa Ana, Calif.-based research firm CoreLogic, the nation鈥檚 shadow inventory at the end of July was 1.6 million units, representing a five-month supply of properties. This is down from 1.9 million units 鈥� a six-month supply 鈥� a year ago, and follows a decline from April of this year when shadow inventory stood at 1.7 million units.

June sees higher than expected housing construction

Despite job losses in the construction sector that will likely take some time to fill in, the U.S. Commerce Department announced some positive news today. According to MarketWatch, estimates for June national housing starts show a 14.6 percent increase to a seasonally adjusted rate of 629,000, the highest national level since the beginning of the year.
