Essex General Construction, founded in 1987, has established itself as a leader in sustainable building practices and community-focused development in Oregon. The Eugene-based contractor was the first to receive Re:Think certification for sustainable business practices by BRING Recycling and remains the only contractor to win the city of Eugene鈥檚 BOLD Step Award for commitment to the triple bottom line.

The company played a critical role in realizing the Eugene Riverfront Redevelopment, a transformational district more than 15 years in the making. The company successfully delivered the first two vertical projects within this master-planned neighborhood, reconnecting the city鈥檚 downtown core to the Willamette River. Essex completed Heartwood in 2024, the inaugural project of the 10-building master plan. The 93,946-square-foot, four-story development delivered 95 residential units. In 2025, Essex completed Portal, a 222,541-square-foot multifamily development featuring 130 residential units across four stories with multiple outdoor community spaces.

Essex is a long-time supporter of FOOD for Lane County. The company has multiple donation drives coming up this year in connection with Topping Out parties for its current construction projects. During these events, Essex hosts food barrels for FFLC and sponsors a match donation: for each subcontractor or supplier that donates directly to FFLC as a part of the event, Essex will match their donation up to $2,500.
